
The fourth competition of the year took place on 6 March; the images being on any subject. The judge was Paul O’Toole of Littlehampton Camera Club and well known to Storrington Camera Club. Known for his sense of humour, as well as his extensive knowledge of photography, Paul kept us entertained whilst reviewing our photographs.
Paul chose his favourite images and then a number of Highly Commended and Commended images. He was particularly impressed by the variety and quality of the entries. He gave us many expert tips during the course of the evening.

The judge’s favourites were:
- Prints: “Snowdrops” by Liz Barber – a lovely, and very delicate, image of 3 snowdrops presented on a pale peppermint green background and printed on textured paper.
- PDI: “Cold Glow” by Alex Swyer – a gorgeous dawn image with a beautiful graduated sky above a frozen stream. The judge said ‘I would put that on my wall’.
A further 2 prints were Highly Commended and 2 more Commended, whilst 4 PDIs were Highly Commended and 4 Commended.

- Commended: “Cold Canal” by Chris West.
- Commended: “Dribbling whilst anticipating lunch” by Dean Sephton.
In total there were 18 prints and the judge was complimentary about all of them, especially the quality of the printing.

- Highly Commended: “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” by Janet Brown.
- Highly Commended: “Hairy Curtain Crust” by Martin Tomes.
- Commended: “A closeup? No chance!” by Dean Sephton.
- Commended: “Between Shy and Sea” by Liz Barber.
- Commended: “Mallard” by Martin Tomes.
- Commended: “Dawn balloon ride in Cappadocia” by Nigel Cherry.
In total there were 24 projected images. The judge was complimentary about all of them and mentioned the large variety of genres and styles.
With the judge’s tasks completed, a vote of thanks was given by Janet Brown, bringing an enjoyable evening to a conclusion.
